To sum it up:
It’s mostly a bug fix with a few simple improvements for import related stuff. Plus a few little UX/UI Updates.
What does Gimp do that Krita (or other FOSS projects) can’t?
I can’t answer that question exactly, but I will say that they are built for different reasons.
Inkscape is an excellent vector tool
Krita has been built from the start to be a drawing, painting illustration tool
Gimp is an image manipulation tool.
Naturally they have features that cross over with one another but they are each the best at their specific goal
Is a normal human being able to use it now?
Yes. If you are a human, please try it out and tell other humans if its usable. It will be different for every human, so make sure to list reasons if it is not usable.
Humans have been using it for 27 years already.
I don’t use GIMP really but i feel like this “gimp sucks” thing you read on social media is just a good example of how social media can be overly negative.
Two review websites (g2 , capterra) have thousands of reviews and the average rating is pretty good , around 4.3-4.4 out of 5.
I use it almost every day at work to fix photos for engineering applications. I am a human person.
Great to see all these new contributors getting involved since 3.0 was released.
